Miami Race Weekend: Race Review

After the excitement of the Sprint qualifying the Race qualifying was a bit of a letdown. Or more accurately, more of what we are used to. The biggest disappointment for me was Ricciardo qualifying last.

The race itself however was amazing! Action all the way up and down the field. Magnussen doing more Magnussen things and trying to go for the record of most penalty points incurred during one race weekend. As much as it was entertaining, some of his moves were way beyond the limits the same as the Sprint. He is likely really close to a race ban at this point.

Meanwhile, Max decided to hit a bollard. I am not sure if that affected his car much (and he didn’t mention it did after the race) but his performance was nowhere near where it normally is. You could argue a safety car helped out Lando a lot, but I think, based on the speed of the McLaren, the win was on the cards anyway. The upgrades McLaren brought this weekend (all 10 or them!) seem to be working wonders. They truly looked like the fasted car on the grid. I think Ferrari will be looking over their shoulders a lot in the coming races. Not sure if Red Bull will be worried yet, this may well be just a blip for them. However, if this form continues and McLaren keep up the pace, they have it will certainly be a great battle for the Championship. Likely a 3 way one!

Elsewhere, Piastri had a good race until his tangle with Sainz which took him out of contention. I think he could have gotten on the podium or maybe 4th. Perez didn’t seem to have the pace at all during the race. His race start was shocking, and he almost took out both Max and Sainz divebombing at the first corner. He never fully recovered his race from then on. I also feel bad for Sargeant getting taken out by Magnussen. Even though he wasn’t on for a points finish I feel it would have been a good race for him.
